"Hello, I'm Madison! I’m a senior at Smith College completing my bachelor’s degree in History, with double minors in Government and Archives. I’ve also reached the advanced level in Modern Standard Arabic (equivalent to three years of college study). My current GPA is a 3.9 out of 4.0.
I have experience tutoring both high school and first-year college students in Arabic. I believe language learning is most effective when it’s engaging and connected to real life, so I integrate fun facts, cultural context, music, and TV shows into my lessons whenever possible. I also emphasize speaking practice. For many students, speaking is the most challenging part of learning a language, and it’s common to feel nervous about making mistakes. By creating a supportive environment and encouraging students to speak as much Arabic as possible, they build confidence, fluency, and familiarity with common phrases.
In addition to language tutoring, I have a background in history education and curriculum design. I previously interned with PYE Education, an after-school program for middle schoolers, where I created instructional materials on Medieval European history, including passages, questions, and answer keys for students preparing for standardized exams.
My academic focus is on interfaith interaction in medieval Iberia, and I plan to pursue a graduate degree in history after graduating from Smith. I’ve taken college-level courses covering eras from Ancient Greece through the 19th century, and I currently work at both a local historical society and a library archive, giving me deep familiarity with local Northampton history.
My studies in interfaith relations have also made me well-versed in the histories and traditions of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. I’m happy to tutor or proofread essays and writing projects on topics related to history, religion, or interfaith relations as well." less...
