"I am a former nuclear engineering student from Penn State, and received my PhD in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers in 1997, with a specialty in Health Physics (radiation measurement and protection). Most recently, I have worked as a trainer in the pharmaceutical industry, and have additional teaching experience as a part-time lecturer, again at Rutgers. Courses included environmental physics, radioactivity and the environment, and energy and the environment.
I have also tutored on-line and in person for high school physics, both mechanics and electricity and magnetism (the former is my strongest area). These were always one-on-one sessions. My philosophy in tutoring physics is to emphasize the basic principles rather than relying on memorizing equations. I also have an interest in the people who did the science, so love talking about the history when I can. I am interested in the philosophy of science, for any student who does reading in this area.
I do prefer to learn in person one-on-one rather than online when that is feasible. I find for me, it is easier to draw a diagram or step through a sequence on paper. For physics, I will sometimes show a short video to demonstrate a concept, as there are some great experiments on youtube, etc.
I think my main strengths are my passion for teaching and the joy I get from meeting new students and seeing them pick up a concept.
NOTE: I observe the Jewish Sabbath from Friday evening to Saturday evening, so if you contact me late on Friday afternoon, I will not be able to respond until Saturday night." less...
