"I am a current PhD student at the University of Illinois in Slavic Studies. I have degrees in International Affairs and Slavonic Studies from the University of Colorado and Oxford University, and am a native English speaker and advanced Russian speaker. Before starting in academia, I worked as a climbing instructor and EMT, spending much of my time outdoors. I am passionate about history (particularly European and World, though I have experience with US History as well), and loved living in England with its incredible and accessible historical sites. My research has taken me around the world, and I have spent time living in England, Germany, Russia and Uzbekistan.
I have worked professionally as an English teacher for 4 years (specifically teaching English as a foreign language), and am TEFL Level 5 certified. I have worked with adults, teenagers, and young children, and love to make lessons fun and engaging for all ages! I have also taught introductory Russian language (1010 and 1020 level) for 2 years at university, and similarly have experience as a Teaching Assistant in Russian Literature and European History. During undergrad and grad school I worked as a tutor for high-school students and college students (Freshman), focusing specifically on writing and research skills, English, and History (AP Euro and US). Though some of my teaching experience has occurred in person, a lot (I'm sure we all remember Covid...) has taken place online, so I am well-versed in teaching remotely. Perhaps most uniquely, I have years of experience as an Academic Coach, and am passionate about utilizing coaching techniques in my teaching by adjusting to a student's particular learning style, drawing on strengths, and customizing study plans to fit individual needs.
When I'm not doing research or teaching, you can catch me cycling and enjoying time outdoors. I look forward to working with you! :)
Cheers,
Danielle" less...
