"Hello, I'm Amanda! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Science, and a minor in Creative Writing. As the eldest, my tutoring journey began with involuntary reading sessions with my younger siblings, and from there, I've gone on to tutor middle and college-age students on a variety of topics. Of particular interest is the art of writing, both creatively and in more refined/ professional works. While AI is quickly taking over the writing space, I still believe there is extreme value in being able to craft writing pieces independently. Having extensive experience with all forms of writing, from research papers and poems to essays and literature reviews, I am equipped to help students refine any and all types of work.
Most recently, I spent 4 years working as a writing tutor for my University's writing center, where I helped students with their writing process through one on one, online instruction. As such, most of my sessions will run about 30 minutes, with students emailing me a copy of their paper prior to the session so I have a chance to preview it and make the most of everyone's time. From there, we hop on an online Zoom link, which I provide in an introductory email, and discuss anything the student has questions or concerns about. I like sessions to stay conversational, where students have the chance to ask questions and get feedback on any part of the paper, but I also have a chance to ask questions and get students to think about why they included something.
Overall, my hope is to alleviate some of the anxiety that invariably comes with writing papers and give students the necessary tools to tackle writing projects in the future. Everyone's process is different, and I'm here to help you figure out yours!" less...
