"I am a medical student at Weill Cornell with extensive experience (>5 years) tutoring high school and college mathematics and chemistry. I graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2021 double-majoring in Spanish and Medical Humanities. Throughout college, I tutored in both paid and volunteer settings, which gave me experience in a variety of fields and with diverse student populations.

My paid tutoring consisted of small group problem-solving sessions for chemistry courses at Johns Hopkins. In this role, I worked with the professor to develop problem sets that would help students integrate the concepts they learned in lectures into practical examples, held problem-solving sessions with 10-12 students each week, and ran review sessions before every exam that thoroughly explained key concepts from the course and how those concepts could be tested. I spent 3 years in this role and found it incredibly rewarding to see my students gain confidence in their knowledge and test-taking skills as the semester went on.

My 5 years of volunteer tutoring were spent working with incarcerated students through the Goucher Prison Education Partnership. In this role, I focused mostly on mathematics ranging from Algebra 1 to Precalculus and Statistics. The organization of this program was an open study hall, where 60-70 students would come to get help with whatever they were struggling to learn. I typically worked with 1-3 students at a time. This experience was invaluable to me both as a tutor and as a person. I learned to adapt my tutoring style to fit the needs of students with mental health concerns, extremely strict schedules, and students who had been out of school for decades.

Finally, although I haven't tutored in Biology before, I have a strong understanding of the field through taking pre-medical coursework, studying for the MCAT, and attending medical school. I am confident that I can apply the skills I've learned in the past to this field." less...
