"I'm Emily! I am currently a college student at the University of New Haven, studying Criminal Justice with a concentration in Victim Services and a minor in General Psychology. I graduated top of my class from high school with a year’s worth of credits, and they fulfilled many of my core classes at college. So, I used many of my electives to explore topics outside of my major, such as different math classes, various history classes, and more recently, a chemistry class. I am a huge believer in the idea that if the tutor/teacher isn't interested in the topic, then the student won't be either, which is why I don’t teach anything that I’m not passionate about.
I have about two years' worth of tutoring experience. When I lived at home, I would go around to different houses in my neighborhood and tutor kids from five all the way to sixteen, helping with subjects like history, algebra, pre-calculus, essay corrections, chemistry, and music. My tutoring approach changed depending on what each kid needed. Some kids who were more hyperactive needed to move around, so I would create activities for us to do, such as fun breaks in between studying or moving around while tutoring to stay engaged. I found that with the more hyperactive kids, having them move around and engage them physically helped them retain a lot more information than otherwise. Moving to college, unfortunately, I couldn't host my in-person sessions anymore; however, all of my kids knew that I was still available for help if they needed, and many of them reached out numerous times.
I am very easy to reach and am available often, providing fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
