Though I majored in microbiology, I took various English and comparative literature courses, wherein I produced A papers and induced teachers to try to recruit me to the English department. Though tempted, youthful arrogance dictated that I stick with a more “practical” course of study. A few years after graduating, I gave in to my literary longings and completed a Master of Professional Writing degree at USC. There, I learned to utilize the techniques and strategies I had often analyzed in literature courses. Having studied words from both sides (as a writer and a reader) has given me a comprehensive understanding of the English language and how it can be presented on the page to achieve certain effects.

For more than a decade now, I've been using this knowledge to help students understand and analyze literature and rhetoric, as well as how to organize their ideas into effective sentences, paragraphs and essays. I've guided high school students through AP Literature, AP Language and Composition, IGCSE literature and IB literature. I’ve tutored foreign students, from teenagers to adults, in IELTS reading and writing. I’ve assisted undergrads in analyzing literature and composing essays. I’ve taught creative writing classes for middle school students. I've even worked with college applicants on their personal statements and supplementary essay questions. I tailor lessons to an individual student’s needs and learning style and provide detailed feedback on essays and writing assignments to help my pupils succeed.
