My name is Maya, and I’m an experienced writing tutor and English as a second language teacher. I have a B.A. in Political Science from McGill University and a CELTA certification in teaching English as a second language.

During high school, I served as a peer writing tutor, editing younger students’ essays and later assisting in classes of freshman and sophomores. At McGill, I wrote academic essays on research and theory. I can help students with college essays or assignments for social studies and English classes. I can also help students prepare for the SAT or ACT verbal sections. I earned 36s on the English and Reading sections of my first ACT.

I have one year of experience as an assistant teacher of English as a second language at a K-6 school, and I also had the opportunity to teach an ESL class to a group of incoming sophomores this summer. I hold a CELTA certificate in teaching English as a second language to adults.

I aim to adapt every lesson to the student’s goals, whether we’re preparing for a test, editing an essay, or increasing conversational fluency in English.
