"I hold a B.A. and M.A. in English, and during my graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill I taught first-year writing and introductory literature courses. In that role, I worked with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds—some arriving with strong writing skills and others still developing confidence with college-level reading and composition. Teaching full courses on my own allowed me to design assignments, lead class discussions, and provide individualized feedback that helped students strengthen their analytical thinking and written communication.
Outside the classroom, I have spent several years working as a professional writer and editor for LitCharts, a major EdTech publisher. I have written full-length literature guides, thematic analyses, chapter summaries, and instructional materials designed for readers of all levels. This experience has trained me to explain complex texts clearly and to break down literary concepts in ways that help both new and advanced readers engage more deeply with what they’re studying.
Across all of my teaching and tutoring, my approach is supportive, structured, and student-centered. I focus on helping learners understand not just what to write, but why certain choices strengthen an argument, clarify ideas, or deepen interpretation. Whether I am guiding a middle-school student through a novel, helping a high-schooler prepare for AP English, or working with a college student on essay structure, my goal is to meet each student where they are and give them tools they can use long after a single assignment." less...
