"I teach freshmen (high school) physics students at a highly selective private school in the South Bay. While tutoring I employ a Socratic method which asks students to explain how they know what they know and emphasizes deep conceptual understanding. This is profoundly effective since you cannot explain what you do not understand. As an expert physics teacher, I know where students encounter physics pitfalls and then purposely ask questions designed to guide students through them. Finally, I challenge myself & my students to not only develop a meaningful understanding of physics, but also enjoy it.
I’ve invested literally hundreds of hours learning from veteran physics teachers through a very unique master’s program at Arizona State University. As a part of that program, I earned a degree in Physics Education Research where I investigated how students problem solve in physics. I’m currently in my 9th year teaching physics and I also hold an Illinois Physics teaching license.
Finally, my unique teaching student-centered teaching style provides a great deal of insight into how students learn physics (much more than a typical lecture based approach!).
I’m happy to set up a trial lesson if you are interested in my physics tutoring. I feel this is the best way to show you how much I can help your student develop genuine confidence in physics." less...
