"Hi. I’m Susan. I am a teacher of 30 years and an experienced private tutor of 20 years. I am a certified reading specialist and hold a Bachelor of Science in General Education. Additionally, I am a fellow of the Pennsylvania Writing and Literature Project.

My love of reading and writing transfers to my students. A treasured note I received from a past student stated, “You make reading come alive!” This is what I strive to do in working with students. I encourage discussion of texts and support students with generating ideas about the text rather than answering rote questions. I take my job very seriously, but also have a sense of humor which helps to make lessons enjoyable. I enjoy incorporating various technology sites into the teaching of reading and writing in order to support and engage students. In my lessons, I provide clear strategies on the development of thinking skills necessary to comprehend all types of texts. I also provide procedures for communicating ideas in writing that coincide with the various writing genres. Through having a toolbox of strategies, students develop the critical thinking skills and written communication skills necessary for success in all areas. Most importantly, my philosophy reflects that each student is an individual with unique strengths and needs. My lessons support students' strengths while addressing areas of need to help them improve.
