My name is Krista, and in my professional life I have been a college-level English tutor, an academic success coach, a job development coach, and an advisor to high school students. I have primarily worked in school and non-profit settings; this is the first time I am offering my services as an independent contractor.

My educational background mainly lies in the humanities. I have undergraduate degrees in Sociology, Anthropology, and Race and Ethnic studies, as well as having additional education in philosophy and psychology. I am currently enrolled in a Masters program, studying to become a licensed therapist. I take a therapeutic approach into all elements of my work, as I believe that the student must be considered as a whole person and a co-collaborator in the tutoring process to have successful outcomes. To figure out how we can elevate your work, I want to get to know YOU; I want to understand your strengths, your goals, what feels challenging, and how to unpack those challenges together.

In a tutoring session, you can expect that we will start with big-picture items, such as content and structure, and will worry about polishing grammar, spelling, and formatting in the latter parts of the revision process. It is my goal to help my students understand the reasoning behind each suggestion I make to ensure that revisions are a collaborative process. My strong suit is academic writing, but I have college-level creative writing experience, as well.
