"Greetings!

I'm Farrah and I recently graduated with my PhD in English with an emphasis in Literature, Media and Culture and specialization in Screen Studies, which means I get to watch, analyze and discuss movies. I have two other degrees, one a bachelors in communication and the other a masters in media studies. Before returning to education I worked in publicity for an entertainment company. This is all to say that I've done a lot of writing and continue to research and write in my new position as an Assistant Professor in Interdisciplinary Studies.

I have taught for six years in higher education, teaching mostly college age students but some who were returning to school after an extended period of time. As a teacher, I base my classes mostly on discussion, however for my writing assignments I believe that writing is a process. This means that I have students outline first and then proceed to write in three different ways, whichever works for them. The first is by word count, second my page count, or third by time. Since each student is different, the writing process is different.

Finally, I believe in drafting and redrafting along with peer review and constructive feedback. In a classroom setting students are able to exchange their works-in-progress for suggestions. Here I would provide the necessary feedback for editing." less...
