"I hold both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from University of Washington and UC Berkeley. I have taught many thousands of students at all levels while working for Sun, NeXT, and Apple over the span of three decades. I am currently a senior instructor at Big Nerd Ranch; a position I’ve really enjoyed for the past 15 years. 


I specialize in development for Apple’s mobile devices in both Swift and Objective-C. So that means iOS; both with UIKit, and now SwiftUI. This grew out of years of work in AppKit in Objective-C, so I can also assist you with Cocoa and MacOS programming for new or legacy code.



I enjoy working with advanced problems but I particularly enjoy helping new programmers, or programmers with experience in other languages and environments, to make the move into the arena of Apple development. 

So, even if most of the above sounds like “jargon monoxide”, not to worry. If you have a Mac and it’s your goal to “create an app” but you don’t even know where to begin, this is a great place.
