"Hey, Ryan here. Having worked in finance for the past 5 years and ESL/English education for nearly a decade prior, I am able to tutor either domain to any age.

After graduating from ECU with a double-major in English and Philosophy, I moved to Asia and taught ESL and English - 3 years in South Korea, 2 years in Taiwan, and 3 years in Singapore. I worked primarily with K-6 students in a classroom setting, but also tutored children and adults on the side.

Upon returning to America, I got my FINRA Series 7 & 66 licenses and began working in finance. I later tutored colleagues prepping for these exams as well. I passed my CFA Level 1 exam and am scheduled for Level 2 later this year. I also gained skills in data science and machine learning using Python 3 through a FinTech bootcamp at UNCC.

My teaching philosophy is student-focused. Everyone comes to a subject with a different background and with different learning gaps, so instead of applying a predetermined curriculum I tailor my lessons to meet a student’s specific needs. Before the first lesson, I review examples of previous work in the relevant subject, or by providing an assessment if no existing work is available. I then discuss findings with the student (or guardian), reach an agreement on desired outcomes from our sessions, and finally build a plan and curriculum to meet these targets. After each session, I reassess the plan to increase focus on areas requiring further attention.
