"I have 23 years of experience in reading and writing instruction, and I find one-to-one mentorship to be particularly rewarding. My students have included high schoolers earning early college credits, new and seasoned undergraduates, and adult learners. My course topics have spanned fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, the personal essay, the research essay, business and technical communications, memoir, and academic information literacy, among others. I am skilled at modeling close reading, literary interpretation, and the development of sophisticated essays. I also actively publish fiction and poetry and enjoy guiding learners in the drafting, editing, and publication process.

I have worked as an editor and proofreader for prestigious independent publishers such as Small Beer Press and Fiction Collective Two, and I have designed reading and writing courses at schools such as the University of Washington, the University of California-Irvine, UMass-Amherst, the University of Minnesota, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
