"Hi, I'm Kathryn. I graduated summa cum laude from Brown University with a BA in Political Science and East Asian Studies in 2018. After graduation, I was a middle school English teacher in Japan for three years. For the last two years, I have been tutoring 5th-12th grade students both freelance and through a company. I also tutored in high school, throughout college, and while in Japan, for a total of 10+ years of tutoring experience. Teaching is my passion, but I especially love tutoring because it is so rewarding to figure out a personalized plan for each student and see them improve. I have experience working with students on the Autism spectrum, students with ADHD, and students with Executive Function issues.

I have a positive, fun approach to tutoring that works well for my students. I endeavor to help students develop homework strategies, effective study skills, and a love of learning that will last long after our tutoring sessions. I am happy to help students with as many subjects as they need for as long as they need. In addition, I help students to build up the skills and resiliency they need to succeed beyond our sessions. I bring the best elements of classroom teaching, corporate tutoring, and private tutoring to my practice.

In a typical session, I ask the student about what they're working on, what they're struggling with, and whether they have any upcoming tests or projects. We might review concepts from class, work on homework, or do practice problems. In addition, we might make a success plan together to manage a difficult workload or plan ahead for assignments and exams. My goal is to work as a team with students, parents, and teachers in order to create a positive atmosphere for learning and improving.
