"Hello! My name is Javier and I recently graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and minors in Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science.
In my previous experiences, I have learned to work with all types of learners: visual, hands-on, quick, gradual, curious, indifferent, adult, child... the list goes on. Since middle and high school, I have tutored my peers in most subjects. While in college, I was a teaching assistant for calculus III and differential equations, allowing me to (1) teach content in both classroom and individual settings and (2) receive professional training as an instructor. After six semesters of teaching, I was gifted the "Best Undergraduate TA at Georgia Tech" award, and I am forever thankful for all the students and professors who made me love teaching even more!
While I am most experienced in teaching math, my academic journey has also prepared me to teach other subjects such as chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, and statistics. Back in high school, I had the opportunity to take 16 AP courses and scored a 5/5 in all of them; I scored a 36 on the ACT and helped my peers raise their scores too. I also love to teach various topics in music, such as introductory music theory and clarinet/flute/saxophone/piano performance.
Aside from preparing you for exams or simply feeding your curiosity, my biggest goal as your tutor is to make topics tangible and appealing. In my own studies, I have discovered that courses feel "easier" when they are palpable to me; when I can understand their relevance to my life or to the world. I believe that this approach, combined with personally-tailored teaching methods, will help you be successful even after one session. I also provide general coaching and can help you find extracurriculars & internships and improve your college applications." less...
