Prior to this program I graduated Magna cum laude from Trinity University with a B.S. in Geosciences and a B.A. in Environmental Studies under an engineering concentration. During my high school years I participated in multiple National Honor Societies, scored high on the ACT and SAT tests, and graduated in the Top 10%.
I have tutored for middle through college-level courses. During high school I was hired as a private tutor for middle school math, science, and English/language arts. These sessions were 30 minute 1-on-1 lessons where students brought their homework and class projects for review and understanding of material. Throughout my undergrad I tutored both middle and high school students with a specialty in the STEM courses and I started offering test-prep options. I was a TA for 2 years in general chemistry at the college level. My main duties were experiment set-up and pre-lab review, but this position also allowed me to gain some experience as a lecturer and as a secondary source of information. I added the position of peer tutor to my schedule and offered a combined total of 6 office hours a week where students could come and ask questions or seek homework help.
I have experience in neurodivergent learning and teaching (ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ASD). My approach to tutoring and teaching has 3 main components: (1) foundational understanding of the material, (2) critical thinking of the material, and (3) application of the material to the outside world. I believe that learning is more than the temporary memorization of a subject for the sake of a good grade on a test.
