"Ever since I was a young boy, I knew one thing was for certain, I wanted to be a medical doctor. I have been so fascinated by medicine and decided to take the right steps in order to achieve that goal. Although I am still a few years away from achieving that goal, I still have that same passion within me as I did when I was a young boy.

The path to becoming a doctor is a daunting task that requires full dedication, and several years of education. Although I am not yet a professional in medicine, I would like to call myself a professional student as I have been in school for 20 years. After high school, I attended Benedictine University where I obtained my first degree, a Bachelor’s of Science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. During this time, I was a tutor for introductory biology and biology lab courses. I tutored for 2 out of the 3.5 years that I was there and enjoyed every minute of it. Although I have the most experience with tutoring college students, I am excited to work with any student population. The approach that brought me the most success was when I would be with the student one on one or a small group, and really listen to where the student was struggling. The majority of the problems involved not understanding what the professor was saying, so from there I would explain the topic in a much simpler way since this was the way I learned. The majority of the time it helped the students, if not then I would refer them to a video/ book resource for that topic.

Once I graduated from Benedictine university, I received my Master’s of Science degree in Medical physiology from Loyola University. After that, I stated medical school at AT Still University KCOM, where I am sure you a third year student earning a degree in Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Although my formal tutoring ended after my undergraduate years, I’ve continued to tutor friends during my Master’s and Doctorate education where I have used the same strategy, which also brought success." less...
