"My name is Richard. I graduated from high school in 2023 and excelled in mathematics. In high school, I was recognized as an AP Scholar with distinction, a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist, and a Questbridge finalist. With a passion for the subject, I currently study mathematics at Brigham Young University with a focus on actuarial science. My drive to study mathematics comes from the influence of marvelous teachers in my life, specifically Ms. Rickenbaker. With her distinct humor and long-term vision, she helped multiple students succeed and inspired me to pursue math. As a tutor, I strive to carry on her legacy and help students to reach their math goals, whether it be as small as a homework problem or as big as passing a final test. As I tutor, I help students to see the purpose of each concept, teaching that each new math symbol isn't just another burden, but another step to a larger picture. Since every student is on a different stage of that path, I adapt material and teaching style to each student to help them progress at the pace they need.
I believe that every student has the ability to succeed in math when they work hard and believe they can succeed. As a tutor, my role is not to help students pass classes, but to help students to learn conceptually and think for themselves so they can succeed on their own. With this approach, I believe that students will not only get the A+ for their class, but provide for them the math foundation they need for the rest of their life. Students will gain confidence as they see themselves progress in math, gaining real skills and applying knowledge applicable to themselves.
My personal success as a tutor is determined by the joy that students feel as they accomplish things that used to feel impossible through learning. With that motivation, I am excited to work with students in the local community and see them grow as they learn math. I am always available for questions, comments, or to schedule a tutor session and hope to meet soon!" less...
