"Hello, I'm Makayla! I'm a college senior at UCLA majoring in cognitive science on a pre-psychiatry path.

As a former Peer Learning Facilitator at UCLA's Undergraduate Writing Center, I am very familiar with academic papers, personal statements, and presentations. I can help with any kind of literature paper, oral presentation, or personal statement at any point in the writing process. I have reviewed personal statements for college applications, medical school, graduate school, and internships.

I was also in the Learning Assistant program for Cell and Molecular Biology (LS 7A), where I was taught pedagogy techniques to empower students in UCLA biology/STEM classes. I have also taken the entirety of the LS 7 series at UCLA (Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Evolution and Ecology, Physiology and Human Biology).

Outside of academics, I am a freelance artist with a great deal of experience in the principles of art and design, both traditional and digital.

As someone who feels passionately about mental health, I believe that at times the current school system does not accommodate different types of learning for students. With my tutoring sessions, I hope to first get to know my students, then formulate a lesson plan personalized for them.
