"My name is Ashley and I am a UC Santa Cruz graduate who double majored in Mathematics and Business Management Economics who also played for the NCAA Women's basketball team! While there, I served as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Co-President and was captain of the team. I had to balance and prioritize my school work and class schedule while attending practices and traveling for games, as well as making time for my mental health and relationships.
I've tutored a variety of high school students in several mathematics subjects, including pre-algebra, algebra, and pre-calculus. I enjoy math so much; learning different methods of solving problems excites me and I always love a challenge with problem solving. My favorite methods of tutoring are Active Learning, or keeping the student engaged through different outlets, and The Pause Procedure. I prefer taking the time necessary to understand concepts rather than getting work done quickly but not productively. I practice Active Listening and enjoy Personalization, so I would love working with students to discover the best way they learn, which is an individualized experience. There is no one way to do a math problem, just like there is no one way that a student learns.
My teaching experience has been 1 on 1, in person and remotely, as I also coach high school Junior Varsity girl's basketball and have a passion for teaching basketball and helping high school students gain confidence and new skills. I would love to tutor your student with patience, curiosity, and create a positive learning environment where they can be themselves while learning new skills!" less...
