"Hi, I'm Liz! I am a fifth year Physics PhD candidate at the University of Colorado, Boulder, currently based at Yale as I wrap up my research. I received my Bachelors of Science with distinction in Physics from Yale University in 2020 and received my M.S. also in Physics from CU Boulder in 2023.
While in college, I peer tutored for several of the Introductory physics courses, connecting with students one-on-one and in groups at weekly sessions. Looking back on my time there, some of my best memories were from peer tutoring. Receiving positive feedback from my students, or seeing something click in their understanding was incredibly meaningful to me. Physics is often seen as a daunting subject, but the process of breaking down that illusion—by developing intuition and honing problem-solving skills—was incredibly empowering and rewarding. In particular, I was most proud of the individual relationships I built with the students who regularly came to my sessions. One student, who I often went overtime with to make sure she understood all of the problem set, told me at the end of the semester "You've made my physics experience just so much better. Things actually make sense now."
I have also tutored in English, in a writing lab in high school. As a volunteer, I helped high school students edit their essays or pieces of writing one-on-one. Students could come to me at any stage in the writing process, from organizing initial ideas to polishing the final draft. In each hour session, I really enjoyed getting to the heart of their writing and helping them hone their work.
Although it has been several years now since I have tutored, I bring a lot more experience with me now than I did then, and I am excited to benefit my students in any way I can. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to get in touch or schedule a lesson!" less...
