"I have a bachelor of science in Biology from the University of Michigan, an active teaching certificate, and taught high school chemistry and biology for 5+ years starting in 2018, earning the highest effectiveness rating every year evaluated. I also coached 8+ seasons of high school pole vault. Before becoming a public school teacher, I tutored math with a fourth grader, did virtual English lessons with students in China, volunteered as a docent at a science museum, and was a substitute teacher.

Despite having great teachers, science - particularly chemistry - was very difficult for me as a student. As a teacher, chemistry became my new favorite subject! I empathize with students who experience similar struggles and try to frame lessons and explanations in a way that would have made sense to my younger self. I encourage questions and the idea that mistakes are learning opportunities. If a student is stuck but not sure what to ask, I will ask them incremental questions until I meet them where they're at and move them forward.
