"Throughout my entire academic career, I have always had a strong attraction towards math. Not only did I find it to be extremely engaging but also fascinating. This has led me to take up the most challenging math courses I can find, eventually leading to me pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida. In high school, I received a 6 on my International Baccalaureate mathematics exam, and a 5 on my AP Calculus Exam, putting me among the top of my class. Within my first semester at USF, I received a 4.00 GPA, getting an A+ in Calculus I and now am sitting currently with an A+ in Calculus II.
With my love for math, I have always loved teaching others about the subject. At my high school, I offered free tutoring to any of my classmates that wanted it. This led to many kids struggling in their classes to ask for my help. After school I would maintain a one-on-one in person tutoring session where I would discuss any confusion that they have in the class. My favorite approach to teaching is by using anecdotes and metaphors. I try to get to know the person learning and find out what they are interested in, by doing this I can simplify the math by explaining it in a way that is more digestible. I also make sure not to rush the students, throughout the session I always remain patient and maintain consistent check-ups to ensure that they are still following what is being taught. Most students I taught were around my age at the time (16-18), though I have tutored younger family members and family friends, such as my younger brother and his friends.
Overall, I would love to be able to tutor more people in such a wonderful subject. I have a lot of experience teaching others online, as during the course that is all I did to maintain my tutoring help. I would love to provide others with a space where they can truly learn and not feel overwhelmed or intimidated. By creating a calm and productive space, I am sure that I can offer many students the chance to elevate their understanding of math." less...
