"I have an MEd from University of Nebraska and a degree in Mathematics from Spring Hill College. I have been in education for 48 years as a teacher and as an administrator. As an administrator I served as disciiplinarian, academic assistant principal and as principal. Even as an administrator I taught some classes to keep in touch with students. I also have been a tennis coach, coached the "On-sets" and "Equations" math games, worked on the set construction for the school plays, was faculty advisor for the dance team and was advisor to student council. Even thought I am retired, I continue to be on the staff of a summer leadership workshop and have been doing this for over 20 years.
I believe that students need a liberal education that exposed them to many different subjects. Some students do not have an aptitude for mathematics but it is still important that they master certain skills in mathematics. Working in mathematics trains the mind to think critically and develops reasoning skills that can be applied in life situations after high school and college.
As a teacher I taught all mathematics courses over my career. After I retired from principalship I taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Prealgebra, and Geometry to students who had difficulty in mathematics. I helped many of them master the subject matter and eased their fears of mathematics.
I enjoy helping students work on their mathematics skills and hope to have the opportunity to continue to do so in the capacity of a tutor." less...
