"I am new to Wyzant but have been tutoring AP Biology locally for over a decade and have worked independently with hundreds of students in that time. Most of them get 4s and 5s. I have also taught AP Biology for over 20 years and have taught 1000s of students in the STEM magnet school where I teach.

I tailor each session to the specific subtopic AND to the student. Some students need substantial support in understanding the unit concepts before they can tackle the rigorous AP style questions. Others have mostly mastered the content and start each session ready for structured practice with authentic AP questions.

I begin each session assessing where the student is and base the lesson on what they reveal that they need. After many years of doing this, I can reassess and adjust my instruction in real time throughout the lesson. I have had many students who dreaded their biology classes before they began with me and loved the course after working with me. One was "lost" when I met her and was asked by her teacher to explain photosynthesis to her classmates the next week!
