"I tutored every level of math through Calculus 2 and entry level English composition in college, then taught ESL and Math for 3 years in China. I’m TEFL certified for 140 hours.

A few of my students really stand out. I had one student, a first generation college student, who could not pass the lowest math class requirement. I worked with her four times a week for two semesters before she passed! Seeing her succeed gave me such a sense of pride; she worked so hard!

I also loved my experience with ESL. While some of my students may not have been engaged (which is to be expected in classes of 50+), many came to class with interesting, engaging questions. For my first year teaching in China, we had no curriculum and I designed everything myself. It was great practice for writing the curriculum used at a school I helped found in Shanghai, where I wrote and published the curriculum.

Though a career in the US as a teacher isn’t for me, the relationships I built with my students were so important to me, and sharing their success was a great joy. I’m excited for the opportunity to engage with students again!" less...
