"Hi, I’m Joan! I graduated summa cum laude from the University at Buffalo with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a 3.99 GPA in December 2024. I have also been accepted to and will be attending a US MD medical school in Fall 2026. During college, I served as an Evolutionary Biology laboratory teaching assistant for three years, where I led classes of 25+ students through live dissections, crafted lesson plans and quizzes, and guided students one-on-one during office hours. Working closely with students from diverse backgrounds taught me that every learner absorbs information differently, and that great teaching means meeting each student where they are.

Motivated to make the course even more engaging, I designed and led weekly review sessions for over 500 students, using creative visuals and real-world examples to simplify complex topics. These sessions quickly became the highest-rated part of the course.

Beyond biology, I’ve tutored Algebra, SAT Math, and ACT Math for over a year, and as an incoming U.S. MD student, I’ve developed strong test-taking and critical thinking skills, excelling on standardized exams including the MCAT. I’m especially confident teaching Math, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics to students from K–12 through college.

Above all, I consider myself a thoughtful and intentional tutor. I always try to see through my students’ eyes, remembering the moments when I once felt confused, and helping them find clarity and confidence step by step.
