"Jimmy Walter is a flutist, performer, activist, administrator and educator in Greensboro, North Carolina. Jimmy is an advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the Western Art Music field. He pushes for the performance, research, and honoring of repertoire composed by underrepresented composers such as women, POC, and LGBTQ2sIA+. His most recent research has included "Is the Western Classical Music Field Truly Evolving In terms of Diversity”, “What would Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion look like in the Western Classical Music Field”, and repertoire diversity for flutist, why you chose it, and how to be more diverse. Jimmy has presented this research at conventions across the United States including, the Atlanta Flute Club Convention, The New York Flute Club Conference, and will present at the National Flute Association Convention in August 2022.

Mr. Walter attended the University of New Mexico for his Master of Music and Graduate Certificate with an emphasis in Flute Performance. There he studied under the guidance of Valerie Potter, Associate Professor of Flute at UNM and Principal Flute of the New Mexico Philharmonic. Prior to this, he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received his Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Flute Performance. While attending the University of Northern Colorado, Mr. Walter studied under the, Dr. James Hall, and Principal Flutist of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Brook Ferguson and Graduate Teaching Assistant, Mr. Justin Cook.

Jimmy Walter has served as a flute instructor in several capacities. He served as the instructor of flute for the UNM Music Prep School, Adjunct Instructor of Flute at Adams State University, Sectional Flute Instructor at Cibola High School, and Sectional Flute Instructor at Tony Hillerman Middle School.
