"Howdy! I'm Ian, an English Language Arts Teacher in Minnesota. I've been teaching for more than 10 years in a student-centered, inquiry-based school. I am excited to work with you or your student on making and meeting goals that feel meaningful and attainable.

I studied Music at Macalester College, but I discovered a desire to work in education and pursued a teaching license and Master's Degree from Augsburg University. I am licensed to teach grades 5-12. I love talking about literature, poetry, and analytical writing especially. As an English teacher for over 10 years, I have honed my discussion- and inquiry-based methods of teaching to help students strengthen their critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as encouraging them to explore perspectives outside their own.

As an Academic Advisor at my school, I also help students project-manage their own educational work. Students complete a number of large independently designed projects throughout the year, so I am experienced with helping students navigate finding their own passions and unique perspectives in their daily educational journey.
