"Hello!
Here is a bit about my somewhat diverse educational and career journey. I began college at Santa Clara University directly out of high school; I had a superior aptitude for math and was pretty good at drawing and computer programming. I attended SCU just over a year before I was forced to quit due to severe health problems. In the years since, I have earned a low voltage electrician journeyman license, a nursing assistant certification, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Pacific University, where I tutored other students in general psychology. I then went on to earn my DPT as a physical therapist while working as a caregiver and personal trainer. I have been steadily and actively employed as a physical therapist since 2021.
I homeschooled my (former) stepson with a learning disability through his eighth grade year. He progressed about two grade levels in almost every subject I taught him. Although he was already evaluated at least three grades behind his chronological age level at that time, after I homeschooled him one year, he was able to enter high school, and he earned the best grades in our household during his first year.
A bit about my tutoring style: I have often helped and encouraged both my child/stepchildren and my previous tutoring students to create models or drawings if it helps them conceptualize some rather difficult and complex ideas. I also repeatedly encourage them to pre-write to generate ideas for their writing, to show every step of their work for their multi-step problems (even if they can do them in their heads), and to double-check their work for preventable mistakes before turning it in.
Even now that I am a physical therapist, teaching opportunities are among my favorite aspects of my job. I rejoice whenever I see that my clients and patients feel improved success, confidence, and empowerment to move forward with the experience and newfound ability to tackle their own concerns/issues/challenges with increased independence." less...
