"Hi! I’m Debbie. I have been teaching and tutoring math for 14+ years. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I love working with students and figuring out just the right way to explain something so it makes sense. I specialize in teaching math, but I also include executive skills in my lessons to help build organization, stamina, memory, and independence.
I started working with students while I was in college. I worked with the AVID program while I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Colorado. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and went back to school to earn my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I worked at a one-one tutoring center for 2 years while I earned my degree and found my first teaching job. I worked at an elementary school for 8 years teaching 4th - 6th grade, as well as working in the mild/moderate SPED department. I currently work at a private academy where I teach middle and high school math and personal development classes including study skills, executive skills, and communication skills. The model of the private academy is unique and I work in a one-one setting and have the opportunity to build a learning relationship with students for their entire high school career. I love getting to know students and working with them to meet their academic goals as well as their social-emotional goals. I am skilled with in-person and online lessons. I currently work at a virtual division of the private academy, so all of my lessons (middle school math - precalculus) are taught virtually.
I believe that learning happens in a community, and I welcome support, suggestions, and communication from parents, teachers, and other professionals who work with each student. I enjoy collaborating with students to help them build self-advocacy for their learning. I look forward to meeting you and your child to see how I can help him/her build mathematical confidence and reach his/her full potential." less...
