"Hi! I’m Wade. I graduated from Lehigh University with a B.A. in Political Science with High Honors. After college I worked in the New Jersey legislature for several years and soon realized that I wanted to become a lawyer. I took the LSAT and went to Boston College Law School where I won a Peggy Browning Fellowship and wrote and revised essays as a Staff Writer and then Articles Editor for the Boston College Law Review. I then took and passed the bar exam.
In college I was a Technology, Research, and Communications (TRAC) Writing Fellow, which is essentially a writing tutor. The TRAC program trains Fellows how to tutor and then assigns them to classes where they help students with their writing assignments. As a TRAC Fellow I worked with 10-15 college students per semester from my Sophomore to Senior years. Through this training and the three years of tutoring I provided I gained extensive experience offering students written and one-on-one feedback.
As a TRAC Fellow I saw that the students I worked with had the most success when they were feeling comfortable and confident. Reflecting on my own experiences learning and using tutors, I noticed the same is true for me. Therefore, when working with students I focus on helping them feel this way too.
When it comes to writing, this often means showing students that they already have the knowledge and ideas necessary to write their paper. All they really need is help developing or organizing their thoughts. In other subjects, making students more comfortable and confident might mean stepping back from a problem and making sure they have a strong baseline level of knowledge in the field. I’ve found that with a strong foundation, confidence follows, and it becomes easier to build knowledge in a subject’s more complex areas.
Reaching out to a tutor for help is a fantastic step, and you should feel proud that you’re doing so. I look forward to working with you!" less...
