"I taught English for forty years in high school (and two years for Syracuse University). I have been retired since 2011 and find that I miss the joy of helping students understand literature more fully, along with assisting them in bettering their writing skills. What I enjoyed the most about teaching literature is helping students make the connection to their own lives, and perhaps learning from what authors, poets, or playwrights had to say in their works. I have a Masters in English, with the added experience of creating and directing an internship program for high school seniors.

During my forty years, I have been honored with a few awards for excellence in my field, both by students and fellow faculty. I have to say it was a thrill when I would see the "light bulb" go on after discussing a work that students didn't quite get before that discussion. I enjoyed flexibility, feedback, and humor in teaching. While I enjoy my retirement, I also still enjoy helping students "get it." While my home is in Barnegat, NJ, I am willing to travel short distances. I would also work with a student and his/her parents as to a place to meet for tutoring, and a time frame." less...
