"Hello! My name is Hiroko. I am a Japanese national living in the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese for over 20 years. I am passionate about teaching. I believe it is the most rewarding job! I am currently teaching Japanese at a major university and I have experience teaching at various places including colleges, private high schools, and companies. I have taught students ranging from 8 years old to adults. I started tutoring when I was a university student and I have had many tutoring experiences since then. I teach private lessons which I customize according to the students’ needs. I can teach Japanese as a foreign language or to Japanese heritage students who already have Japanese proficiency due to native speakers at home. I have taught AP Japanese exam preparation lessons with excellent AP exam results. I use a variety of materials including textbooks available in the U.S. to the materials I bought in Japan.

I graduated from a university in Tokyo and went to graduate school in Connecticut. I have a master’s degree in TESOL so I have an academic foundation in the acquisition of a secondary language. I taught English in Japan for three years and moved to the U.S. around the year 2000 and I have been teaching Japanese ever since.

I teach online only. My rate is for one-on-one lessons per hour. Group lessons are possible if all students’ Japanese proficiency levels are the same. (Additional $15 per person)
