"Hi, I’m Dixie! I recently graduated from Johns Hopkins University with an honors degree in neuroscience and am completing a master’s in the same field. I scored a 519 (129/130/130/130) on the MCAT and a 1540 on the SAT (740 RW, 800 Math). As a pre-med student, I have a strong background in chemistry (general and organic), biology, biochemistry, physics, and behavioral sciences. Having gone through all levels of IB math, I also have a strong foundation in algebra 1, 2, pre-calculus, and calculus.

I began tutoring 5 years ago, first focusing on algebra. Since then, I expanded to tutoring students on the SAT and individual sciences. After I successfully took the MCAT, I began tutoring students on all 4 sections, accumulating nearly 200 hours to date.

My tutoring approach focuses on fostering a deep understanding of foundational concepts, as I believe a strong grasp of the basics is essential for mastering more advanced topics. I dedicate time to ensuring my students build this solid foundation and incorporate teach-back lessons, where students explain concepts in their own words. This method not only reinforces their understanding but also helps uncover any content gaps that we can address together.

I also recognize that testing conditions don’t always accurately reflect a student’s knowledge. To bridge this gap, I work with students on effective test-taking strategies, such as triaging more challenging questions, managing time, and approaching problems methodically. My goal is to ensure their level of proficiency is fully reflected in their test performance, giving them the confidence to excel under exam conditions." less...
