"Hello everyone!

I am Ernest R., a Wilbur Wright college student studying to major in math education. I want to specialize in secondary education (middle school to high school students). I have worked as a teacher assistant (TA) in a program called High Jump Chicago for about 2 years. During those years, I was a TA for math, social studies, and PE working with 7th and 8th grade students. I have also worked as an ESL teacher assistant for adults as part of Heartland Alliance in the One Summer Chicago Program.

I am fluent in both Spanish and English and have worked to translate documents for those whose parents didn't understand English. While working in both of these roles, I have realized firsthand that not everyone understands or learns things the same way. Some do better with repetition, examples, pictures, etc. Not every student learns in the same way so it's important to adapt to them. I would work in a classroom setting, helping the teacher in any way I could while at the same time, scheduling one on one tutoring with the students. Just because something is hard to understand, doesn't mean the student can't do it. It just means we have to find the right approach. That way the student keeps believing in themselves.
