"Hi, My name is Diana! My main goal as a tutor is to help students connect with the material while reaching their maximum potential in regards to both their curiosity about the content and their grades. I prefer to teach K-12 students in core subjects: English (both Writing and Reading), Science, and Math. But college students are always welcome. So a little about me: In high school, I took Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment classes graduated with a 5.3 GPA. I received my Associates in the Arts from Valencia College (2021) with courses in Rhetoric/Communication, Philosophy, Mathematics, Education, Psychology, Humanetics, and Science. I am currently receiving my bachelor's in Psychology, Professional and Public Writing (Rhetoric concentration), and English Education from Michigan State University (Junior academic standing). While I study all core subjects, my favorite is Science and English.
I started tutoring in my sophomore year of high school, tutoring elementary school kids in math. During my junior and senior years, I tutored upperclassmen with learning disabilities in English (9th grade) and Science (Biology and Physics). I liked tutoring so much, that I would volunteer my time at my old middle school to tutor students in Algebra. During my time at Valencia College, I worked as a tutor in the science and writing center.
I believe that every student can thrive in school, they just need to be taught according to their learning style. My tutoring style will accommodate the student so they can learn the best way for them. I believe in first developing a tutor-student relationship where I can get a better understanding of how they feel about the class and what they are struggling with. Then the sessions will start with some practice problems/questions so I can better understand where they are confused. I will re-explain any confusion the student may have, and then practice the concept again until they have mastered the topic. I also take notes while re-explaining that the student can look back on.
