"Hi! I'm a lifelong Californian who earned a BA in Asian American Studies with a minor in Professional Writing from UC Santa Barbara and MA from UCLA. I developed a passion for working with young people as a writing coach at 826LA, a nonprofit tutoring organization in Los Angeles, and as a college instructor at UCLA. I've worked with students one on one and in small group settings.

For more than 25 years, I've worked as a journalist and essayist for top news organizations such as the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian US, and NBC News, among others. I'm also an author of two contemporary fiction novels and have appeared on podcasts and panels events to discuss the craft of writing.
