"Andrew here! My tutoring experience began back in high school, where I had the privilege of being a peer group tutor for students in my high school's AVID program for two years. In the classroom, I worked directly with students in small groups of 4-5 at a time on Algebra I, II, and geometry. I observed how grateful the students and teachers were to have me as an aid in the classroom, and as I honed my ability to tutor, I knew I'd seek out opportunities to have a similar level of impact in the future.
As the oldest of four siblings, I've lived a lifetime as an informal tutor and mentor. I'd frequent the dining room table after school to help my younger siblings understand their math homework. I'd consider the job complete when they knew what to do without my help, even if that meant creating extra practice content for them. When school was out for the summer, I worked with children as a camps counselor, continuing to grow my leadership abilities while creating fun experiences for children from all walks of life.
Whether it be at camp or at the kitchen table, I have a knack for making learning approachable and enjoyable for my students, and I often customize problems to fit the extracurricular interests of my clients. To keep my classroom experience fresh, I work per-diem as a substitute teacher at Sequoia High School, my alma mater. All this adds up to an educator who not only knows the material, but also knows how to best engage people via the way they learn best. Knowing the online environment can quickly become boring for some learners, I tutor in a way that's fun and engaging, with an emphasis on practicing material together to gain mastery.
My aptitude as an educator, paired with my fun and engaging teaching style makes for a great online environment. With all the clients I've helped and experience I've gained in my 5+ years as a private tutor, I can't imagine ending it all now. I look forward to hearing from you, whether it be a question or to schedule a lesson." less...
