"Hi, I'm Meryem! I hold an M.A. in Philosophy from University of Wisconsin–Madison and a B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Politics and Ethics from University of Houston. My teaching journey began eleven years ago right here on Wyzant, and over the years, I've worked with a wide range of learners--including high school students, undergraduates, and adult learners in both classroom and one-on-one settings. I currently teach philosophy and ethics courses at Southern New Hampshire University, helping students grow as thinkers as they grapple with philosophical questions and discover their own ideas and voice in the process.
Throughout my career, I've taught students in both classroom and individualized settings, designing and leading courses, facilitating discussion sections, and developing tailored learning plans for learners with different goals and learning profiles. My approach is rooted in the belief that each of us possesses an innate capacity to experience the flow and joy of learning far more topics than we might initially realize. I think of good instruction as a form of translation: you can explain something beautifully, but if you're not speaking in the learner's language--the way their mind naturally processes information--it simply won't land. One-on-one tutoring allows us to discover that shared language together, and once we do, concepts that once felt inaccessible suddenly click into place.
My aim is to make philosophy and writing accessible and genuinely engaging. I approach our sessions with subject matter expertise and an understanding of students’ needs and goals. When we feel seen and supported in our unique learning styles, we can all grow in our desired subject areas while simultaneously cultivating confidence in our intellectual strengths.
If you are interested in working together, I would love to hear from you! You can reach out with any questions or to book a 15-minute consultation to see whether I would be a good fit. I’ll reply to all messages within the same business day." less...
