"As a former ESOL student, I understand what my students experience in a new country and school. It can be very overwhelming because you cannot understand anyone. At a young age, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. A teacher who made a difference in children's lives through their education. My fifth-grade teacher was that person for me. She believed in me when many other teachers did not.
For the past 14 years, I have been working with children to help them see their potential. Every child who walks into my classroom learns that I am here to support them with their education. I do not allow a student to fall through the cracks. They are supported not only through learning English but in all of their academic endeavors.
I started teaching in 2011 as a Pre-k teacher. I did this for 3 years. Those years were most rewarding years of my educational career. I learned how to be compassionate but hold high expectations for all students.
In 2013, I began my career as an ESOL teacher in BCPS. I taught K-5 ESOL for 8 years at 5 different schools all around the county. In 2022 I decided to make the change to teaching ESOL in Middle School. This was a scary career decision. However, I believe it was the best decision I have made for myself as an educator. These students are the ones who need the most support. They depend on the compassion and understanding of their teacher to become successful. My favorite part is seeing the light bulb shine when something finally clicks with them. Seeing their growth is the best feeling as an educator." less...
