"I have taught mathematics for over twenty years---from middle school math to college algebra, including students with special needs and the academically gifted. I have been an online teacher for the past twelve years. I especially enjoy one-on-one tutoring because I can identify skill gaps more quickly.

I really enjoy teaching high school Geometry, mainly because it requires a new way of thinking logically and precisely. This way of thinking requires a period of transition after Algebra 1, and I love helping students through this phase and beyond. I also love teaching Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra students because I can see the "big picture" of being successful in high school math.

I understand the importance of learning precise vocabulary in high school Geometry, which might not have seemed necessary in a student's previous math courses, and I enjoy providing strategies to improve in this area. The logical thinking skills learned in Algebra 1 and high school Geometry will serve a student throughout his/her/their life.

At this level, learning in mathematics can be divided into two basic categories: 1) how to get the right answer, and 2) what the right answer means. I can definitely help students improve in both of these skills. As one of my students said, "It's actually fun once you understand it." less...
