"I am a Colorado-licensed math teacher with a BA in Mathematics from The Colorado College, where I studied everything from Calculus to Abstract Algebra and Computational Geometry. What sets me apart is my experience teaching integrated math curricula (I have taught Carnegie Integrated 8th grade, 1 and 2 in the classroom). If your student is in an integrated pathway and struggling to see how algebra, geometry and trig all connect, I can help make sense of it.
I taught high school math for 3 years in classroom settings, working with everyone from students who thought they were "bad at math" to AP-level achievers. Some of my best teaching has happened at home: I homeschooled all three of my kids through their elementary math education, and they've gone on to become honors students at public middle and high schools. This experience taught me patience and how to find the point of confusion. When you take the time to understand where a student is stuck, you can then formulate an approach to help them through that barrier and progress accelerates.
Outside of teaching math, I run an outdoor guide service and very much enjoy fishing (*angling*). I am an avid mycologist and enjoy active stock and commodity investing. I mention this because learned math will not stick or make much sense until we use math in our daily lives. I often draw from my hobbies and experiences to connect academic math to real world situations and problems that you care about. Let's figure out what makes math make sense for you." less...
