"I've been working in private and group settings as a violin teacher for as long as I remember! Growing up, I worked with people in the folk music world to help them with developing classical technique, and people in the classical music world to help them understand folk style, rhythm, and groove. In college, I was employed by the USC Excel Research Project, teaching kids violin in the classroom and privately. Having just graduated from the Colburn Conservatory of Music with my Bachelor's in violin performance, I am starting my career as a teaching musician. I'm most experienced with elementary school age kids and college kids, but I am enthusiastic about helping people of all ages figure out the complexities of the violin. I am deeply familiar with the details of learning and teaching the violin on every level--setting up technique, learning how to practice, training through the Suzuki books or taking a more personalized approach, developing skills in music theory, and preparing for performances, college audition tapes, or competitions. My goal is to meet students where they are at, learn about their goals, and adapt my approach to suit their needs. I would love to help a kid stepping their toe into music as a hobby, an adult who wants to take up the instrument, or someone who wants to polish up their skills for college applications!" less...
