"I studied under Karlton Hester at UC:SC in 2019. I was forced to drop during COVID-19 shutdowns, but now have been continuing my studies at the Santa Rosa Junior college for the past 3+ years. I was a top student in my Classical Music Theory set, and am currently the top student in my Jazz Rock Pop Theory set. I have been tutoring music theory and musicianship for about two years now, only receiving praise and further recommendations from my professors and past students. I am studying to be a music teacher once I transfer from my community college, so getting all the teaching experience I can get is what I am after. I have been tutoring both in person and over zoom during my tenure as a tutor. I tend to let the students explain their thought processes and reasonings before diving into the topic so I can tackle misunderstandings head on right away. I also don't just provide answers to my students, but instead provide them the tools necessary to get to the right answer themselves. If I notice they are struggling, instead of giving them the answer, I bring their attention back to the topic as a whole and make sure the concepts are solid before students overcomplicate it for themselves. I also like to connect the theory we discuss with real life examples, and short cuts once I feel they have theoretically understood and hopefully master the topic." less...
