"Hello! My name is Eric: in 2019, I received a doctorate in linguistics from the CUNY Graduate Center. As a lecturer at a state university, I also have 5+ years of teaching experience working with both college students and older adults, teaching classes on phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics. My specialty is linguistics, but I also have a background (B.A.) in sociology from Bowdoin College, and my dissertation research has given me a specialty in gender studies. I also have experience working as an editor for a nonprofit organization, and I have worked with students in writing exceptional essays and papers.

As a professor who has worked with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and learning styles, my first priority is to help students use the knowledge they already have to understand the things they want to know. Students should feel like they're part of the learning process: rather than me droning on and on about a topic, I work with students to help them understand topics in new ways, through games, audiovisual materials, or just by talking about how these topics might relate to our daily lives.
