I am currently a Literacy Coach at a public high school in Hawaii and a former High School and Middle School English Teacher. I also teach World History during the summer. I received my Master’s of Education in Teaching with a concentration in Secondary English (Grades 6-12) from the University of Hawaii - Manoa in 2022. I then went on to obtain a Certificate of Competence in Special Education I, a Certificate of Competence in Special Education II, and an Advance Professional Certification in Special Education in 2023. I am currently licensed by in the State of Hawaii by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board in English (6-12), Social Studies (6-12), and Special Education (6-12). I received my Bachelor’s of General Studies degree from the University of Nevada - Reno with minors in English Literature, Philosophy, Criminal Justice, and Archaeology in 2008. I was a Fire and Life Safety Specialist for over 10 years with the largest Security and Fire Alarm company in the State of Hawaii before being blessed with the opportunity to pivot careers in 2020. In Education, I have found my true calling and after five years of classroom teaching, I am now in a non-classroom teaching position where I get to coach fellow teachers on best practices and strategies for integrating literacy into their curriculum throughout various subject disciplines. My pedagogical philosophy is rooted in humanism and I firmly believe that all students can learn regardless of the learning challenges they may face so long as they are properly motivated and instruction is delivered in a way that focuses on the individual needs of the learner.
